How to Make a Life Insurance Claim

Losing a loved one is incredibly hard and dealing with their life insurance may seem like yet another issue you’re not ready to tackle, especially when many people aren’t actually aware of how to make a life insurance claim. It’s good to note that there is no time limit on making a claim, but when you’re ready, we’re here to guide you through the process and make it as simple as possible.

What You Will Need To Claim

  • The death certificate
  • A claim form
  • The insurer’s and policy details

Step 1: Give the Servicing Agent a Call

If we are the servicing agent of the policy, we will assist you in making a claim. Give us a call on 0161 233 3110 and we will start the process. If we are not involved in the policy, contact the servicing agent, broker or insurer who set up the policy for more help.

Step 2: Obtain the Death Certificate

Death certificates are available from the funeral director and will be necessary to make a claim. If the insurer asks for the cause of death, it can be found on the back of the certificate. It is usually worth getting multiple copies as these can be useful at several points down the line.

Step 3: Fill in the Claim Form

You will need to fill in a claim form provided by the insurer, either physically or online. The servicing agent can help you with this should you need it.

What If I Don’t Know The Policy Details?

It isn’t unusual for information or documents to get lost in the aftermath of a death, and that’s if your loved one passed on any details of their cover in the first place. If this happens, it may be worth checking bank statements of the deceased to find out which insurer to contact. They should be able to help you from there, even without a policy number. (However, in some instances the mandate will display a policy number).
